Rep. Frederica Wilson Joins Two-Person "Cowboy Hat Caucus"
While freshman Rep. Frederica Wilson has more important things on her priority list she's still trying to get presumptive Speaker of the House John Boehner to let her wear her trademark hats while the House is in session. Well, she's found an unlikely alley in a conservative Republican freshman congressman from Missouri named Billy Long. The two have deemed themselves "The Cowboy Hat Caucus."
Wilson is only one of nine freshman democrats in the class of 2010, and met Long during the House's equivalent of college orientation. They too bonded over their shared love of hats.
Long told Wilson about PFI in Springfield, and said she could order some nice hats from the store over the Internet.
A look at Wilson's campaign website suggests she and Long may not have many political views in common. She is a Florida state senator endorsed by Planned Parenthood, and displayed pictures of herself with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Long was proud of not having been a career politician, and was endorsed by Missouri Right To Life. He campaigned against what he called the Obama-Pelosi agenda.
Both Long and Wilson told the News-Leader that no, they didn't talk politics. Wilson said she was just struck by Long's friendliness.
"I told him he sounds like an auctioneer," said Wilson. "It was fun. I'm looking forward to working with him. He was so funny, quite delightful."
Both wore their hats in the freshman class group picture.
This sounds like the making of a really, really great sitcom or romantic comedy doesn't it?
