Patient Strangled Roommate to Death at Aventura Hospital
Alexander Thadeus Jackson was admitted to Aventura Hospital around 10 a.m. Thursday. Five hours later, his roommate was dead.
Hospital staff found the victim, Raul Alexander Rios, lifeless on the floor of the room the two were sharing. Jackson was found in the bathroom, taking a shower. According to a witness, he said he "had done something wrong and that he had killed somebody."
According to NBC Miami, Rios was last seen alive around 2:45 p.m. Jackson was found shortly after 3:30. He later admitted to strangling Rios with his hands and a bed sheet.
Attempts to revive Rios were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.
Jackson, 31, was charged with first-degree murder. He's being held at a pretrial detention center and appeared in bond court Sunday. He was not given bail.
"We reported an incident to law enforcement, and we are assisting in their investigation," reads a statement from Aventura Hospital. "We wish to express our heartfelt sympathies to the families of those involved."
It's unknown why either Rios or Jackson had been admitted, and a motive has not yet been established.
