Over the Weekend - Dolly Parton, Miguel Migs and Arthur Baker
We don't know what's better: the zero humidity or the temperature starting to cool down. We are glad to see that our version of "fall" is finally starting. Some complain that Miami's lack of seasonal change is a negative, but we fail to see the fun of driving on icy roads, blizzards and adding on 50 extra pounds of clothing to stay warm.
So enjoy the weather because here is what you missed over the weekend:
Dolly Parton at Mizner Park Amphitheatre
We aren't exactly fans on country music or its sub-genres, but there is just something about Dolly Parton that we can get enough of. Maybe it's because her contribution to music as a whole, maybe it's certain other physical enhancements. Click here to read the full review.
Miguel Migs at Set
Florida Launch vs. Atlanta Blaze
TicketsSat., Jun. 17, 7:00pm
NPC Southern States Bikini, Figure, Men's Physique
TicketsFri., Jul. 7, 6:00pm
NPC Southern States Bodybuilding Championships vs. NPC Southern States Fitness & Figure Championships
TicketsSat., Jul. 8, 6:00pm
Florida Launch vs. Chesapeake Bayhawks
TicketsSat., Jul. 15, 7:00pm
We don't enough props to Set for how truly gorgeous the venue actually is. While the door is definitely very elitist, we can give respect them for sticking to a certain business model: packing beautiful people into a beautiful space. And San Francisco DJ Miguel Migs made sure to bring his brand of soulful house to Set Friday night. Click here to view the full slideshow.
Coltoberfest 305 at Sweat Records
We aren't sure if local graffiti artist Aholsniffsglue actually won the competition that had artists from all over the United States redesign the Colt 45 bottle, but we aren't going to argue with the free Colt 45/Vice Magazine sponsored party at Sweat Records Saturday night. Spin The Vote with Arthur Baker at White Room
We missed it but we can imagine the awkward conversations between representatives for the Barack Obama, Joe Garcia, Annette Taddeo and Raul Martinez campaigns and the drunk patrons at White Room Saturday night. Hopefully legendary producer Arthur Baker's set provided enough noise that conversations were kept to a minimum. Click here to view the full slideshow.
Meat Loaf at Pompano Beach Amphitheatre
We are disappointed that we still don't know the one thing Meat Loaf won't do for love, still the aging rocker filled our campy rock quota for the year. Click here to read the full review.
