Naked Boat Thief Darrel Horne to Police: "Taser Me, Bro"
Back in 2007, University of Florida student Andrew Meyer delivered the ultimate stun gun catch phrase when he pleaded with police, "Don't Tase me, bro." Four years later, another Florida 20-something, Darrel Horne, asked police to "Taser me, bro" while naked and on the run after stealing a boat. Unlike Meyer, he got his wish.
The incident occurred Friday near Lake Botts in Pierson, Florida. Horne, 28, and his accomplice Matthew Shrider, 27, were on their way to visit their friend who lived on the other side of the lake around 4 p.m. when their truck ran out of gas. Stuck without a way to get there, they decided to make do and steal a boat. This should be your first clue that neither were exactly in the best decision-making state of mind.
The two walked onto a dock with an axe and got in a boat. A neighbor of the boat owner witnessed the theft and called police. Volusia County Sheriff's deputies arrived and ordered the two to return to the shore. Naturally, the duo's decision-making didn't get any better.
"Horne started to curse at the deputies and take off his clothes," Sheriff's office spokesman Brandon Haught told the Sun-Sentinel. "He then dove in and swam in the opposite direction, cursing and making hand gestures as he went."
Shrider wised up and decided to paddle the boat back to shore. Deputies found the axe, a can of beer, and a bottle of rum. All they needed to find next was a naked Horne.
They eventually spotted him a wooded area near the shore. Horne wouldn't comply with the deputies so one pulled out his Taser as he exited his car.
"Taser me," Horne yelled at the deputy. "Taser me, bro."
The deputy Tasered him, bro.
"Later, Horne apologized to deputies and thanked them for Tasering him," Haught said.
The duo now faces charges of armed burglary, grand theft, and resisting an officer.
