Monday Tech News Roundup
Admittedly, the Miami New Times tech department isn't all that comfortable text messaging, let alone reporting scientific breakthroughs. We're as impressed by $15 laptop cooling accessories, as we are by 3-D holograms of Will.i.am. But that's the beauty of our blog; we learn about technology together.
Today, we're trying something a little different. Rather than reporting on Miami's tech industry and boring you with geek speak, we've gathered three interesting science stories that'll surely add depth to your office water cooler gossip game. Maybe it'll work--we hope--or maybe we'll get yelled at by the suits in New York. Nevertheless, this is the first installment of Monday Morning Tech News Roundup. (Feel free to suggest alternate names via the comment section.)
Happy Birthday, X-Ray: If you're Googling at all today, you'll probably notice the funky Google doodle hovering over the search bar. The search giant/future dictators of the World Wide Web have been commemorating special events since the late 90s, and today they mark the 115-year anniversary of the X-Ray with a fun, electromagnetic image--well, an artist rendering, at least. Read more about it from the LA News Monitor.
You and 4,000 Others Like This: Phew, we're running low on our AOL trial hours, so it's a huge relief that a new, downloadable web browser was introduced earlier this morning. Marc Andreessen, the dude that founded Netscape, is responsible for backing RockMelt, a browser meant for serious social networkers. Learn all about RocketMelt from PC Magazine, and lookout for a review later this week on Riptide.
Call Windows: Windows Phone 7 hits retailers today, and it's costing Microsoft about $100 million to just market the thing. For that kind of money, we're expecting the new phone to be damn near on par with the iPhone. Microsoft's hometown paper, The Seattle Times has more.
