Riptide won't be the only web effort of a local news outlet that likes to keep its tongue as close as possible to its cheek, anymore. After NBC Universal's sale of WTVJ fell through late last year, they've decided to relaunch the station's website as NBCMiami.com, mirroring the cyber-makeovers other NBC O&Os in New York, Los Angeles and others overtook last fall.
NBC poached Miami.com Editor Jessica Sick to run the show. Meanwhile, Fred Gonzalez (who, according to Sick's announcement email, is the "bomb.com") will take over Miami, the events and culture oriented site run by The Herald.

Following the lead of other NBC local media sites, NBCMiami.com will feature a mix of original reports, lots of bloggy type content, and syndicated stories from wires and other sites. For the record, NBC has contact New Times and me individually about various different things that didn't quite work out, but we're pretty sure the new site will launch later this month.
