According to the Millman Index, the average total medical costs for a family of four rose 7.4% in the past year to $16,771. Miami has the heaviest costs in the entire country, with an average of $20,280.
That costs includes employer contributions, deductibles, and co-pays.
Americans pay about 15.2% of the GDP on health care annually, the highest rate of any nation in the world except for the Marshall Islands. Some predict that rate to climb to 19.5% by 2017.
