What do you expect when you take kids who normally spend most of their time in the sleepy little mountain town of Blacksburg, Virginia, and put them in Miami for New Year's Eve? Probably not good things. In the lead up to tonight's Orange Bowl, eight players on the Virginia Tech football team have been punished for blowing the team's 1 a.m. curfew on New Year's Eve. Two players will miss the first quarter, while another six were sent home on a bus back to Blasckburg. Ouch.

First came news that active players David Wilson, a sophomore running back, and Antone Exum, a redshirt freshman safety, would miss the first quarter of the game, have a portion of their spending stipend revoked, and would miss the team's outing to see the Miami Heat take on the Golden State Warriors.

Apparently, both players were in their hotel, but not in bed by the team's 1 a.m. curfew.

Another six players, none of whom were on the team's two deep rooster, also broke curfew. They promptly got sent home on a bus. Which seems like a real bummer.

"I think overall the attention to detail, the kids have been doing what they're supposed to do when they're doing it," head coach Frank Beamer told The Washington Post. "You want your kids to enjoy themselves, have fun, be able to go to a big time basketball game. I think those are the good things. I think the other side of it that's important is that you're mind is on beating Stanford. That's the big picture."

Sure, sure, Beamer. We just wish his entire team would have broken curfew the night before their game against the Hurricanes this season.
