Miami Beach Carpenter Tried to Kill Coworker with Machete
A carpenter employed by the City of Miami Beach is behind bars today after attacking a co-worker with a machete and nearly severing his arm. The incident happened yesterday when 63-year-old Baez Del Castillo got into an altercation and then attacked Marcos Fojon, 59.
Both Baez Del Castillo and Fojon work for the City of Miami Beach's Property Management Division, and we were working yesterday on the 1200 block of Michigan Avenue. During the worker's lunch break the two got into a verbal tiff about break times according to NBC Miami.
Baez Del Castillo at first tried to hit Fojon with a 2X4, but a witness stopped him. Baez Del Castillo then went back to his work van and grabbed a machete. He returned and swung the weapon at Fojon, but Fojon was able to block it. Baez Del Castillo then continued to hack away and nearly severed Fojon's arm and left several wounds to his leg.
A witness noticed the fracas and tackled Baez Del Castillo to the ground. The witness restrained him until police arrived, and the suspect was left with a bleeding head after being tackled.
Fojon is currently at Ryder Trauma Center.
Baez Del Castillo appeared in court this morning on charges of attempted first degree murder and was denied bond.
