Marlins Execs Upset Red Sox Didn't Bring Star Players to Spring Training Game

Can the Miami Marlins be any more pathetic?

The team hosted the Boston Red Sox, the defending World Champions, at spring practice today and charged fans a premium price for tickets. Though, the Red Sox showed up with a lineup devoid of star power and with only two players in the starting line up who have actual major league experience (perhaps not that dissimilar from a Marlins regular season lineup).

The Marlins are apparently going to tattle to the league about it.

From The Sun-Sentinel:

The Marlins had no comment, but a source said team executives were "outraged" and planned to contact the league office. A league spokesperson said tthe matter would be reviewed.

Major League Baseball has specific guidelines about Grapefruit and Cactus League lineups. Its 2014 regulations state teams should field: "A minimum of four players who are regulars on the previous year's major league team or who were platooned on the previous year's major league team on a regular basis, or who have a reasonable chance to be regulars on the major league club's squad during the upcoming season. Each of those regulars, excluding pitchers, must play a minimum of three complete innings."

Most teams interpret the rule pretty loosely, and usually teams don't go tattling on each other about it. It's possible the Red Sox will get fined for the violation.

Though, It's probably not much of a surprise that the defending champs wouldn't bother to use a road game against a team that had the second worst record in the league last year as a chance to sharpen up its star players.

Ironic though that of all teams its the Marlins complaining about another team not bringing enough star players.

Can we tattle to the MLB that the Marlins don't bring enough star players ...ever?

In case you're wondering: No, the Marlins couldn't even beat the Red Sox's batting practice filler line up. The teams tied 0-0.
