Jealous Rappers: Stop Hating on Iggy Azalea
Uncle Luke, the man whose booty-shaking madness made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. This week, Luke defends a female Australian rapper who's making hits.
Rap artists like Q-Tip and Azealia Banks waste time hating on Australian MC Iggy Azalea. They need to get over it. Iggy has become one of the hottest artists in the world. People don't understand how hard it is to sell a record. Yet Iggy has found her niche. And it is undeniable she has a style that audiences like.
Those hating on her are jealous that they can't sell a record or are mad to see Iggy become successful when they can't be. Seeing Iggy get the big budgets to go on big tours makes rappers who are washed up or who can't find a label to back them so envious that they spend most of their day tweeting smack talk at Iggy.
Q-Tip went in on her with a long diatribe about the history of hip-hop as if she doesn't have a clue. Obviously, she's got talent and star power if T.I., one of the shrewdest rappers and producers in the game, took her under his wing.

Then you have Banks, who can't go one day without lobbing bombs at Iggy via Twitter. It reminds me of the way rappers looked down at Pitbull when I was promoting him early in his career. People would say that Pitbull didn't write his own lyrics and that he was trying to steal black culture.
Today, I'll go to Latin strip clubs like PT's in Hialeah and find aspiring rappers who badmouth Pitbull, saying he is not street enough. I have to put them in their place.
The same thing is happening to Iggy. The bottom line is that she is selling out tour dates. That deserves respect. But when you make it in this rap game, you will always have detractors looking to start beefs. It's been going on since the early days when Kool Moe Dee was beefing with LL Cool J and when Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre were beefing with me.
Banks, Q-Tip, and any other rappers who have a problem with Iggy need to leave her alone.
She's a winner.
