Hialeah Man Shoots at Car for Flashing High Beams, Leads Police on Chase
It all started last night around 11:15, when Jean Valeus, 28, pulled his Nissan Maxima off to the side of eastbound I-595 near Flamingo Road. A Road Ranger stopped to help Valeus, but Valeus pulled out a gun, fired it into the pavement, and told the Ranger to leave.
The incident led to a string of events in which Valeus took off, fired at another motorist, and was eventually caught on foot by a police dog.
It's unknown why Valeus had pulled over, but after warning the Ranger off with the gunshot, Valeus got back into the car with his passenger, Miranda Wynn, 25, and continued driving east on I-595.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, another driver decided Valeus was driving too slowly and flashed his car's high beams at the Maxima. Valeus responded by firing a shot at the driver. Luckily, the shot missed.
Valeus continued driving into Broward County and merged onto I-75. He drove with his hazard lights on and at one point even stopped on the interstate.
Eventually, FHP troopers and Miramar Police began pursuing the Maxima, and in an attempt to escape, Valeus twice made illegal U-turns on the interstate.
The chase crisscrossed the county line, with the Maxima at times reaching speeds of 110 mph. He eventually crashed the car on NW 138th Street in Hialeah. He tried to flee on foot but was caught by a Miramar Police K-9. Valeus then attempted to punch and choke the dog but was apprehend by police. He was taken to Palmetto General Hospital for the dog bites.
He now stands charged of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in public, reckless display of a firearm, resisting an officer with violence, and attempting to flee and elude law enforcement at high speed. His passenger, Wynn, was not charged.
