This morning, just as George Zimmerman was asking a judge in Sanford to grant him bail as he awaits trial for killing Miami teen Trayvon Martin, Good Morning America aired a bloody new photo they claim shows Zimmerman's injuries sustained during his fight with Martin. An ABC news reporter says the photo was "apparently taken moments after (Zimmerman) shot" Martin on Feb. 26, and was obtained from a neighbor.
It's certainly odd that the photo hasn't emerged until now -- on the very day Zimmerman is petitioning for his freedom. If it's legit -- and all signs indicate it is -- it's not clear how much the photo changes the heart of the prosecutors' case.
Update: Zimmerman's been granted $150,000 bond and will be released with an ankle monitoring bracelet, the Miami Herald reports via Twitter.
According to ABC, the photos were taken by a neighbor who heard Zimmerman and Martin fighting and then came outside after the shooting. A "wobbly" Zimmerman asked the neighbor to call his wife.
"Man, just tell her I shot someone," he told the neighbor according to the report.
GPS data in the neighbor's iPhone also confirms the photo was taken moments after the shooting, ABC says, and investigators are aware of the photo.
Certainly the photo bolsters Zimmerman's claims that Martin repeatedly smacked his head against a sidewalk during their confrontation.
But it remains to be seen how much it will change the heart of the case: whether Zimmerman can claim a Stand Your Ground defense when he clearly pursued Martin against the advice of a police operator.

Here's what Martin's family told ABC: "Prosecutors have seen all the evidence and still believe Zimmerman murdered Trayvon."
