When former Coral Park Senior High standout Arrington Jenkins chose to play for Florida State University over his hometown team Miami, he told an ESPN reporter: "I don't have to worry about the 'U' anymore. I want to put them in the ground for the next four years."
However, after getting arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing a motorcycle, Jenkins has to worry about forces stronger than the U now.
Jenkins, a true freshman who is red-shirting this season, allegedly pulled off a heist early Sunday morning, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The bike's owner had kept the motorcycle in the back of his truck, which was parked on the street. He reported it missing at 2 a.m.
Police arrived and say they found the world's most obvious clues: tire marks from the bike started right by the truck and led police a short distance directly to the apartment complex where Jenkins lives.
Police ultimately fingered Jenkins and approached him about the theft during the Seminoles' practice around 5 p.m. later that day. The Seminoles are busy preparing for a bowl game against Norte Dame.
Jenkins told police he saw the bike just sitting there in the street and told them: "Anyone who leaves a motorcycle out in the open should expect to have it stolen."
I guess Jenkins decided he might as well be the one to steal it and wheeled it away. Of course, anyone who is stupid enough to leave tire tracks pointing directly to their front door should expect to get caught.
Jenkins was arrested on charges of felony vehicle theft. He was released from a Leon County jail later that day after posting $5,000 bond.
Jenkins amazingly is actually the second FSU football player arrested for theft this past weekend.
