Democratic Primary Debate Coming to Miami in February or March

It wouldn't be a presidential election without a nationally televised debate in Miami, and today the Democratic National Committee announced that Hillary, Bernie, and whoever else jumps into the race will be coming to Miami in either February or March. The debate will be co-sponsored by Univision and the Washington Post, but no other details were unveiled. 

Here's the Democrats' full six-debate schedule. Although the crowded Republican field (or at least the most relevant portion of it) will start facing off tonight, Democrats won't take to the podiums until October.

October 13 – CNN – Nevada

November 14 – CBS/KCCI/Des Moines Register – Des Moines, IA

December 19 – ABC/WMUR – Manchester, NH

January 17 – NBC/Congressional Black Caucus Institute – Charleston, SC

February or March – Univision/Washington Post – Miami, FL

February or March – PBS – Wisconsin

Republicans will also come to Florida for a debate in March, but no exact date or even a host city has been announced. CNN and Salem Radio will be co-hosting that forum. 

In 2012, Republicans Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich came to Miami Dade College for back-to-back live interviews with Univision's Jorge Ramos. During the 2008 cycle, both Democrats and Republicans came to the University of Miami to participate in debates sponsored by Univision. Way back in 2004, George Bush and John Kerry faced off in a debate for the first time at the University of Miami. 

The 2008 debate held by Univision in Miami took place earlier in the cycle (during 2007 actually) and focused on issues important to Hispanic voters. This debate, however, will happen in the thick of the primary season and before Florida's March 15 ballot. Thus, Univision will likely host its first traditional debate that isn't targeted squarely at Hispanic voters.
