David Beckham on MLS Team: "We Have Looked at Other Places"
With a looming deadline on his contract option to buy an MLS team, it may seem that its Miami or bust for David Beckham. Though, in the latest issue of Sport magazine, the print arm of British sports radio network Talksport, Beckham downplays that his franchise will necessarily be in the 305.
"How are things progressing with the franchise? Will it be Miami?" asks the mag.
"The announcement is not out yet - we haven't announced Miami," replied Beckham. "We have looked at other places. People are talking about Miami because they've seen me there, and definitely that is an option, but we've not put the announcement out."
David's contract clause that would let him buy a franchise expires on December 31st. At this point, it certainly would be a surprise if he's got a serious backup plan if Miami falls through. Besides, you'd think given Beckham's worldwide superstar status it certainly would be a surprise that such backup discussions wouldn't have leaked to the press.
Then again, maybe he's just trying to be a showman and amp up some extra suspense.
Also of note, while this excerpt was published online today and the issue itself hasn't been published yet, there's no telling when the interview actually occurred.
