Crist Is as Popular as Obama, No One Knows Any of These Senate Wannabes
Charlie Crist is still enjoying a quite enviable approval rating, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll, with 65 percent of Floridians approving of his job performance. That's about the percentage President Obama is getting in nationwide polls.
Meanwhile, of all the names being thrown around for the 2010 Senate election, only Bill McCullom has major statewide name recognition. Fifty-four percent of Floridians were able to form an opinion about the attorney general. Compare that to CFO Alex Sink (who will not be running for Senate): Only 29 percent of Floridians knew enough about her to either approve or dissaprove of her service (though only 5 percent dissaproved).
Other 2010 wannabes are even less well known. Only 10 percent of Floridians approve of Rep. Allen Boyd, and 84 percent have never heard of him. Seventy-nine percent haven't heard enough about Kendrick Meek, 82 percent for Ron Klein, 69 percent for Marco Rubio (more people dissaprove of him than approve, though), 72 percent for Vern Buchanan, and 51 percent have never heard of Connie Mack IV (wonder if that 49 percent is confusing him with daddy?).
If the primaries were held today, 15 percent of Florida Dems would vote for
Sink -- who is not running -- and 13 percent for Meek. All others get single
On the Republican side, 22 percent like McCullom, and 21 percent like Mack. All others are at 10 percent or less.
In other stats, Sen. Bill Nelson has 53 percent approval, the state legislature gets 40 percent with 42 percent disapproval, and Mel Martinez gets 42 percent approval.
George W. Bush closes out his prescidency with only 34 percent approval in Florida, while Obama begins his with 66 percent.
