Florida's education rankings continue to linger in the bottom half of the nation's states, and who does Charlie Crist appoint to the State Board of Education? Oh, a former professional football player.
ex-FSU Standount and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Peter Boulware ran for a Florida House seat as a Republican and lost (hence 'loser' in the title) by 440 votes. So Charlie decides to give him a politically influenced consilation prize and appoints him to this board, which really he has no business being on. He's a member of no educational organizations, has no background in education what so ever. His FSU degree is in "management information systems," uh whatever that is. Then he played for the Ravens from '97-'05 and decided to run for the House. Some one point out the experience that is relevant to overseeing education, please.
The good news, perhaps, is that he's replacing some crazy lady Donna Callaway, a Jeb Bush appointee who got into a huff over teaching evolution in school.
Not that Boulware's views may be that much better. He supported Mike
Huckabee in the Republican Primaries, who if we recall correctly, was
the candidate for people who didn't think the other Republicans hated
gays and a lady's right to choose enough.
