As The Fight Over FPL's Proposed Mega Power Lines Continues, South Miami is Holding a Workshop
Riptide is willing to beat that most readers of this electronic alternative weekly newspaper internet sit generally agree that electricity is a good thing, but are generally opposed to urban blight. Well, Florida Power and Lights can't seem to reconcile these two positions, and have been threatening various communities in South Dade with miles of 100 foot power line poles that are an affront to our delicate aesthetic sensibilities and possibly our health. FPL currently is eyeing the possibility of putting poles alongside US1, or on an alternative route along the old East Coast railroad.
On the heals of Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerne's suggestion that new lines should either be buried or placed along FPL's existing right away near the Don Shula Expressway, the city of South Miami will be holding a public workshop to discuss FPL's proposed plans. The meeting will be held this Monday from 7-8:30pm at City Commission Chamber, 6130 Sunset Drive.
