Allen West Hears People Are Going to Get Hurt, Immediately Offers To Drive
House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) showed an inspirational clip from a movie at a closed-door Republican meeting Tuesday. It wasn't from Rudy, nor was it the snow-jogging montage from Rocky IV. It was from The Town, about Ben Affleck trying to rob a bank or something. Apparently Blockbuster didn't have any copies of The Human Centipede.
"I need your help," Affleck's character says. "We're gonna hurt some people." Then his friend asks whose car they're going to take.
The offer (ass, gas or grass, Colonel?) was apparently West's way of throwing his support behind a national debt-reduction plan proposed by Speaker of the House John Boehner that even some House Republicans are saying won't cut the mustard.
They aren't biting, according to reports, because the plan omits details of 2012 spending cuts and a guarantee that the proposed constitutional amendment to require a balanced federal budget will make it to the states for ratification.
In response to news of the video clip, Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz, fresh off of being told to "shut the heck up" by West, called Politico to complain that Republicans "start the day with trying to incite their caucus with, essentially violent movie clips, pushing their people to inflict pain and hurt people."
It's not clear if Wasserman Shultz, who is also the chair of the Democratic National Committee, is actually fearful of Republicans taking policy advice from a dude who was in Clerks or if it was just her way of providing context for her statement that House Republicans are running the risk of sparking "panic and chaos" trying to install a "dictatorship."
