This year they finished yet another pathetically mediocre season with an embarrassing home loss to an inferior opponent and gave their head coach a four year extension.

Al Golden is now signed on to be the Hurricanes' head coach until at least the end of the 2019 season.

Of course, the situation is pretty different. No one was looking to swoop in on Randy Shannon. The rumors/suggestions that Penn State may have been interested in Al Golden may have urged the school to lock him up. So, they offered him the four year contract extension.

The fact that the Hurricanes are awaiting the results of a serious NCAA sanction also probably made the school eager to keep Golden. Trying to lure a coach while awaiting unknown punishments isn't exactly a good situation.

So congratulations Coach Golden, lets hope you can show us you earned it next season.
