Absolutely No One Went To This Week's Florida Panthers Game
There are many possible explanations for what occurred Tuesday night -- but really, only one makes sense.
It could have been the fact that the Panthers-Senators game unfolded on a Tuesday night, which is the worst night imaginable for professional athletics. Or perhaps it was the matter that the Ottawa Senators and the Florida Panthers are among this year's most unwatchable teams.
But in fact, it's because no one in South Florida cares about hockey. And this truth -- no matter what the New Times commentariat claims -- was evidenced once more on Tuesday night when the Florida Panthers etched its lowest attendance in half a decade.
Only 10,074 people attended the match -- just 11 more than a dismal 2008 affair between the Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes in 2008, which drew a scant 10,063 attendants.
Heady times in Florida hockey, these are not. Thankfully, Miami Herald beat reporter George Richards was there tweeting the farce.
All of it was enough to make this woman go like this:
Attendance like this isn't a new thing to the Panthers -- which for their part made the 2012 Stanley Cup -- and its first tremors were felt months ago. At a preseason game between the Nashville Predators and Panthers at the BB&T Center in mid-September, the attendance could be counted in dozens. Hyperbole aside, we called it the "worst turnout in the history of professional sports."
So what does the Florida Panthers, who have only won seven games this season, have to say about all this?
#FlaPanthers fall 4-2 to the Ottawa Senators.
