Few artists have ever burst onto the scene with the intensity of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. The beat of the duo's 2012 smash single "Thrift Shop" — which sounds somewhat like a funky door hinge that could use a bit of oil — is forever ingrained in our minds.
Even stranger, the song that launched them to the top was about nothing more than shopping at a thrift shop. That's it.
Not that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis haven't gone on to produce songs of more substance — for example, "Same Love" — but they've also kept alive the trend of making songs about, seemingly, nothing — like the musical equivalent of Seinfeld. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' latest single, "Downtown," is about buying a moped. And it's creeping up on 100 million Youtube views.
So, clearly, the Seattle rap duo have found a winning formula. And if you're interested in seeing that formula live, we've got good news.
We're giving away two pairs of tickets to go see Macklemore & Ryan Lewis live at the Fillmore Miami Beach on Tuesday, January 19. Sure the two were just in town for a free concert on Miami Beach, but this is going to be a longer, more intimate affair.
