Boca Raton native Chris Carrabba and his band, Dashboard Confessional, gave back to the community with two passionate concerts on Friday at Lynn University. Proceeds from the shows will benefit a memorial scholarship fund honoring students and faculty who were tragically killed in the January 12 earthquake in Haiti.

The evening started out with an intimate VIP performance for about 40 people in Lynn University's Schmidt Studio at Lynn's Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center. Carrabba played a couple of songs by himself, and then played the rest with his backup

guitarist, John Leffler. Some diehard fans even flew from New York for the experience.

Orlando's Mike Dunn and Lake Worth's John Ralston, both purposeful

singer-songwriters, properly set up Dashboard Confessional's

performance with the Lynn University Philharmonia in the Wold

Performing Arts Center's main space. The evening, attended by many

members of the Lynn community, featured Carrabba accompanied by the

orchestra, but also solo on  on guitar and piano.

Several folks told me that Carrabba

was his energetic, emotional self, and seemed charged by the

experience. In addition to staples like "This Brilliant Dance," "Saints

and Sailors," and "Hands Down," there were a few surprises, including a

cover of Cory Branan's "Tall Green Grass," featured below:
