For South Florida natives under the age of 30, it's quite likely that your first concert experience took place on a sweaty summer day at Coral Sky Amphitheater. And it was probably the Vans Warped Tour.
Though Coral Sky eventually became Mars, and Mars later became Sound Advice, and Sound Advice ultimately became Cruzan, one constant has remained. For much of its 18-year history, the Vans Warped Tour has set up temporary shop at the familiar grounds of 601-7 Sansbury's Way in West Palm Beach whenever it's in town.
The Warped Tour itself, however, has changed dramatically. "It's cool and it's dark and it's away from the crowds," 50-year-old Ann Chervin recently told New Jersey's Asbury Park Press. She was speaking from inside the tour's "Reverse Daycare," an air-conditioned tent where parents can get out of the heat and away from the alt-punk music for a few minutes.
"I was always joking with friends, 'I wonder if they have a place for moms.'" Now they do. So whether you're 15 or 50, there's something for everyone at the Warped Tour.
