We've lost track of the hype-backlash-hype-backlash cycle that aims to tell us whether it's currently "cool" to like Vampire Weekend or not -- but who really cares. The band's sophomore album, Contra , achieved the previously unthinkable feat of scoring number one on the Billboard charts. It was welcome proof that there is, perhaps, a market for Ivy League rock if it's groovy enough. (Please hand us a sweater, we're catching a chill down here in Hades).
What other Sperry's Topsider-wearing Columbia kids could actually get RZA to cameo star in a video, as Vampire Weekend did in the promo clip for "Giving Up the Gun," above? Perhaps they bonded over their shared love of Polo clothing.
Anyways, get excited, because the band returns to the Fillmore Miami Beach for a show this October 13. Get more excited
, though, because the opening band is the awesome, Crossfade-approved Baltimore dream-pop duo Beach House
, an act unlikely to make it down here on its own any time soon. The Very Best
, an unclassifiable Radioclit spinoff act from Malawi/England/France/Sweden, also provides support.
All tickets are general admission, cost $36.50, and go on sale this Friday, June 25 at 10 a.m. through livenation.com
, or for the Luddites, through 800-745-8000 and at the Fillmore box office.
