Yes, feel old -- it's already been a whole year since Michael Jackson passed on to the great big Thriller cemetery in the sky. We're a bit disappointed to see, however, that there aren't too many official local events tonight at which you can celebrate MJ's life in the way he would have wanted -- by dancing. Still, at least two South Florida clubs are hosting tribute nights in his honor. If you know of any more, please add them to the comments here.
*In South Beach, Skyline
is hosting a celebration of the one-year anniversary of Jackson's death, courtesy of 1 Life Entertainment and the Amari Group. DJ Nasty provides the soundtrack, which will be MJ-heavy tonight but otherwise play the best hip-hop and R&B. Ladies get in free before midnight, and enjoy two-for-one drinks all night. For ballers on a budget, there are $150 bottle specials all night, too.
*A little further afield, up at Passion
at the Seminole Hard Rock, the regular Candy / Party Factory event adds a little MJ spice to the usual proceedings. Expect, again, plenty of Jackson songs, as well as a bunch of candy-themed craziness that includes a "Candyland fashion show" and a "candy buffet." Music comes courtesy of Power 96 DJ Tony Tone. Ladies are in free before midnight, and everyone gets in free on the Candy Man guest list, to which you can add yourself by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org
or calling 561-577-8507.
