Top Five Cheesy Dance-Pop Vocals By Crystal Waters, Playing SET on Saturday
If you were around in the early to mid-'90s, there is no way you missed out on the guilty pleasure of dance-pop music sensation Crystal Waters' sultry vocals all over the airwaves. In 1991 the then-unknown New Jersey-based singer/songwriter took a demo tape of a little ditty called "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" to DJ/producers the Basement Boys, whose hit-making studio magic would help catapult Waters to international stardom.
With its catchy "la da dee la dee da" refrain and jazzy keyboard riff, "Gypsy" would go on to top the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts and has become something of a pop-house classic that never fails to delight club revelers whenever dropped surreptitiously by a DJ in the middle of a set.
But that wasn't it for the soulful diva, who would continue to bang out chart-topping hits well into the '00s, including the memorable "100% Pure Love" and "Say... If You Feel Alright". Hardly one to end up in the dusty '90s one-hit wonder record bin, Waters made a come-back in 2007 with Alex Gaudino's "Destination Calabria", which reached the Top 10 on the UK Singles Chart, and embarked on a world tour, performing sold out shows on four continents.
You can catch the fabulous Crystal Waters performing live at SET this Saturday, and in anticipation of her show, we decided to bring back some of her fantastically cheesy feel-good jams.
