These four shows in the Broward-Palm Beach area slated for Friday evening appeal to four drastically different demographics, and none would be characterized as casual.

Erica K. Landau on drum and bass legend Roni Size:
"Mirroring the dark, smoky, sweaty underbelly of ravers' paradise,

Size's music contains what sounds like a lot of schizophrenic

constructions, rapid-fire pacing, jungle rhythms, and sirens synonymous

with DnB.This funk-filled cocktail will be a full-body workout for anyone who

isn't shy about hitting the dance floor."

Roni Size, with Juan Basshead, Will Miles, Stereotype, Methodus, Mr.

Alvarez, MCs Jumanji, Sopheye, The Nome, and Hydraulix, Merlyn,

Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $19. 954-727-0950; click here.

Reed Fischer on funk and soul combo Morris Day and the Time:
"Now that Jehovah's Witness Prince has cleaned up his act and his lyrics,

the ribald Morris Day and the slimiest slap bass lines around still can

drag the night comfortably into the gutter."

Travis Newbill on ska-punk superheroes the Aquabats:
"In concert, the band still bounces around slaying villains and inspiring

nerd-moshing among their costumed fans -- from festival dates last

spring to an opening slot for Blink-182 in the fall, and a 2010 East

Coast tour currently under way."

The Aquabats, with the Action Design and Koo Koo Kanga Roo. 7:30 p.m.

Lauderdale. Tickets cost $17. 954-654-1074; click here.

Arielle Castillo on hardcore act Skarhead:
"Distinguished by Diablo's aggressive, street-smart swagger, the band is

often credited with helping create so-called "thugcore," a subgenre full

of relentless breakdowns and throwdown-ready posturing."

Skarhead, with Fortitude, the Shakers, and others. 8 p.m. Friday, May 7,

Ballers Rock Bar, 3200 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., Pembroke Pines.
