New Times recently gave Kill Your Idol, the new bar occupying the old Blue space, the nod for Best Jukebox. It's true -- the venue is part of the extended Vagabond / Lost Weekend / Respectable Street / et. al. galaxy, and as such there are some seriously music-minded people behind the venture. As we mentioned in the Best of Miami issue, this is the rare, for-locals South Beach bar where your dollar will get you song selections from the likes of
Tonight, though, it's worth heading over for the bar's weekly Wednesday human jukeboxes, especially if your chromosomes are of the xx variety. We at Crossfade don't usually endorse ladies' nights -- the concept usually screams watered-down fruit martinis and purse-clutching group dances to Beyonce.
The Kill Your Idol version
is an exception to the cheese. Probably most importantly, women drink free all night. That's free, on the usual wells and beers, no catch, no buy-one requirements, no time cap. Got that? Behind the booze haze, too, are some killer tunes, courtesy of resident DJs Caroline and Desiree, as well as rotating female guests, who spin everything from vintage rock and roll to left-field electro to moody indie rock. The official party kicks off at 11 p.m.
