Tommy Trash at Amnesia Miami February 24
Compare the Sarah Connor in the original Terminator to the Sarah Connor in Terminator 2.
The former? Straight chillin' in the '80s — teasing her hair and shrieking like a useless wench whenever murderous robots from the future popped out from around the corner. The latter? A total badass — straight hair, buff arms, no bullshit. The first time around, baby girl didn't even realize she was the mother of the future leader of the human resistance. But take two? Bitch was ready to lock 'n' load all the way to Judgment Day.
Our point: DJ Tommy Trash performs music à la Sarah Connor getting ready to halt a human holocaust at the metallic hands of cyborgs. Since mid-2011, he's been gigging behind his highly acclaimed The End EP, which has earned spins from David Guetta, Afrojack, and Tiësto and catapulted Tommy toward the champagne-soaked spotlights of South Beach clubland.
The DJ-producer says his music is an attempt to "rescue the world from the dance music apocalypse." And we can see how: "The End" boasts such steady beats and well-placed hand-claps that we can't imagine a better soundtrack for boogying one's way out of obliteration.
So although the big beats and irresistible acid-synth lines might seem to be pure party, Tommy Trash is really all about preventing the total annihilation of the human race by evil machines and/or e-music.
