The Weekend in Live Music, July 25 - 27
Here's a wrap-up of the highlights this weekend in live shows. -- Arielle Castillo
*Secondhand Serenade tugs at your heart strings at Culture Room. He's helped along by Rookie of the Year, the Graduate, Playradioplay!, and My American Heart. Click here to learn more about the man behind Secondhand Serenade.
*Also in Broward, at the East Side Pub in Ft. Lauderdale, the amazingly named Bone Lee Tadpole plays his signature gritty repertoire of roadhouse-style jams perfect for both dancing and crying into your beer. Not an easy feat! Click here to read more and get the address and phone number (hey, pub, you need a web site!).
*Like your indie dark, moody, post-punky, and featuring a dreamy singer with a tasteful collection of fuck-the-weather scarves? Yes, you do, or you should. And so you should go see Astari Nite play at midnight at the weekly Poplife get-down at the White Room.
*The Rhythm Foundation brings a little bit of Rio to Broward county by presenting samba songstress Mart'nália at Culture Room. Click here to read a feature about it in the Broward-Palm Beach New Times.
*Not exactly live music, but not exactly your typical club fare.... If you're a hipster parent, you'll want to head to Revolution, in Ft. Lauderdale, this afternoon for the traveling TRULY all-ages jam, Baby Loves Disco. Click here to learn more about it.
*This name kind of makes me want to puke: Tongues of the Heartworm. It's just kinda slimy-sounding right? But these boys churn out interesting "experimental" rock with a bunch of other local acts, tonight at Alligator Alley. Click here to read more about them.
*Jazzilla (hah) plays at one of the cutest under-the-radar bar/venues in Miami, Bougainvillea's Old Florida Tavern in South Miami (it's a little cottage-looking place on one of the side streets near Sunset Place.) Click here to read more about it.
*More jazz, but this time in West Palm Beach, and with a distinctively Latin sabor... At the Meyer Amphitheatre, check out Carlos Oliva y Los Sobrinos Del Juez. Click here to read more about their sound, and to get address and details.
