Steve Angello Plays Mansion's Five-Year Anniversary Party This Saturday
Naming his label Size Records, DJ/producer Steve Angello set himself up for criticism if he couldn't lay down the magnitude of tracks necessary to command a room like Mansion, where he will help commemorate the club's fifth birthday on Saturday. Luckily, Angello's brand of breezy, big room progressive house perfectly complements the high energy of the venue.
Angello, of Greek-Swedish descent, pulls in influences that play well from Italian beaches to New York's boutique hotels, Ibiza to South Beach. It's a true Sun Countries sound tempered with some frosty filtering, one full of synth arpeggios, treble trills and darting, dovetailed strings of melody across the flushed faces of clubland.
Collaborating with producers such as Sebastian Ingrosso, Laidback Luke, and Eric Prydz, as well as manning the mixing board alone, Angello has released a steady stream of singles that he peppers into sets, alongside his usual electro-house anthems. Occasionally he also indulges a dip into the deep, quirky tech-house of labels such as dirtybird, Cocoon, and Border Community, among others. And with EQs thrown wide Angello, with support on the decks by Chicco Secci, will fill the dance floor and flood the mezzanine, getting Washington Avenue's mecca ready for synthetic alpha beta psychedelic funkin'.
Steve Angello, at Mansion's Five-Year Anniversary. Saturday, February 21. Mansion, 1235 Washington Ave., Miami Beach. Doors open at 11 p.m. Tickets cost $20 in advance from www.wantickets.com. Ages 21+ with ID. 305-531-5535; www.mansionmiami.com/steveangello
