"This isn't rock 'n' roll!" some punk yells into his mike, even though there are three young men standing behind him onstage, fully equipped with guitar, bass, and drums. "This is hardcore." That's a scene from Orange County Hardcore Scenester, a documentary exploring the crucial distinction between commercial rock and hardcore punk, specifically within the context of the '90s O.C. music scene. And in celebration of the pit flick's September 15 release on DVD, Strong Reaction Booking will present Reel and Restless, a multimedia megafest at Churchill's Pub this weekend. For three mammoth nights, new jacks and scene vets alike will be encouraged to mosh like Bill Clinton is still president of the United States. Strong Reaction will not only screen O.C.H.S. and host a Q&A with director Evan Jacobs on Saturday, but also deliver a hardcore Friday-through-Sunday triple-header, starring straight-edge vegan favorites By the Grace of God and Damnation A.D., as well as Florida crews Culture, Bird of Ill Omen, and the mighty Shai Hulud — plus Trial, Mean Season, A Chorus of Disapproval, Foundation, Strung Out, the Swellers, Such Gold, Powerhouse (Reunion), Break Ties, Homestretch, Deathbed, Armageddon Man, Losin' It, Old Habits, the Believers, Aversion, Everymen, and three secret guests. Rock is dead. Hardcore lives forever. Now mosh.
