Putumayo's reach is truly global. What began as a clothing line has morphed into a world music label that for more than ten years has been producing compilation albums that highlight artists from nearly every continent. Named for a Colombian river valley, the label has enjoyed a hearty serving of success with ten releases, making it to Billboard's Top 15 World Music Chart. Mixing traditional with modern, previous Putumayo CD collections have included artists as popular as Bob Marley, Peter Gabriel, and the Gipsy Kings, and as obscure as Angelique Kidjo, Peatbog Faeries, and Nataraj XT. Tonight's party will celebrate the release of Radio Latino, an eleven-track work of radio-friendly Latin pop. There will be performances by Javier Garcia and Sacha Nairobi, both of whom are featured on Radio. Other artists on the album include Orishas, Martin Buscaglia, and Los Pinguous. One dollar from each sale of Radio Latino will be donated to United for Colombia, a nonprofit organization that helps rehabilitate child victims of land mines in Colombia. Alexandra Quiñones
