Midnight Magic: "High-Energy, Always Funky"
Midnight Magic is their name, and that funky disco groove is their game.
Founded by production veterans Morgan Wiley and W. Andrew Raposo, fronted by soulful chanteuse Tiffany Roth, and backed by a stellar ensemble cast of musicians, the group has been making major waves on the NYC underground dance music scene and beyond.
Midnight Magic's new Vicious Love EP on Soul Clap Records is a record brimming with lush, cosmic disco songcraft, while a reputation for exuberant floor-packing live performances precedes the crew wherever it goes.
Ahead of the highly anticipated Halloween show at Bardot alongside Psychemagik, we spoke with Morgan Wiley about Midnight Magic's musical roots, creative process, and the new EP.

Crossfade: How did the Midnight Magic foursome first come together? What glues the four of you together creatively?
Morgan Wiley: The four-piece format of the band came together out of necessity. The full band is nine people, but we usually can't afford to bring nine people on the road, hence the four-piece. We are glued together creatively by our mutual sense of musical freedom and spontaneity.
What do each of your bring to the table as artists? How would you sum up the chemistry and collaborative process in the studio?
Each member of Midnight Magic brings their original style on their instrument to the table. That translates to the overall sound of Midnight Magic.
Do you consider Midnight Magic strictly a product of the NYC music scene? How does the NYC dance music legacy inform what you guys do musically?
Midnight Magic is not strictly a product of the NYC music scene. We are New York-based, and New York has been a huge inspiration, but we have also traveled around the world, which influences the music greatly.
You just dropped your new Vicious Love EP on Soul Clap Records. What can you tell us about the creative process on the record? How did you approach the songwriting and production in the studio?
Usually the songwriting and production starts with a strong beat, bassline, and chord progression. If those elements are intact, they inform the rest of the parts of the song, and hopefully it all comes together naturally and easily. This was generally the process on the Vicious Love EP. Starting with the songs rhythmic and harmonic foundation, and building up from there.
So what can Miami expect during your show at Bardot on Halloween Night?
Miami should expect Midnight Magic to bring the dance party this Halloween. Live, the band takes on a different life than in the studio. It is high energy and always funky!
