Miami's Five Best Concerts This Week
Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club’s Adios Tour. Presented by Live at Knight. Thursday, October 22, 8 p.m. Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami; 305-949-6722; arshtcenter.org. Tickets are sold out via arshtcenter.org.
Although it's been seven decades since Havana's members-only party spot, Buena Vista Social Club shut its doors, "some of that original scene’s essential players," as pointed out by New Times, "reemerged following Cuban musicians Juan de Marcos González and American guitarist Ry Cooder’s Buena Vista Social Club album in 1997." Nearly two decades later, the musical collective is saying adios to its fans, but not without a proper farewell in the form of a concert and new album, Lost & Found.
Joey Bada$$. With Denzel Curry, Bishop Nehru, and Nyck Caution. Friday, October 23, 7:30 p.m. Revolution Live, 100 SW 3rd Ave., Fort Lauderdale; 954-449-1025; jointherevolution.net. Tickets cost $24.50 plus fees via ticketmaster.com.
Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ may be leaving "Paper Trail$" across the globe on his world tour, but what excites us the most about his upcoming SoFla gig is opening act, Denzel Curry. Reigning from the streets of the 305, the Carol City rhyme slayer dropped his double EP 32 Zel / Planet Shrooms earlier this summer, and is already working on a mixtape, King of the Mischievous South Volume II, set to be released this fall. But for now, he's busy reppin' the Magic City alongside the Pro Era rap star.
Grammy-nominated blues guitarist and Baton Rouge native Tab Benoit may be a true bluesman, but he's not afraid to switch things up. His playing holds influences of soul, rock, and even Chicago-style blues. His sound is unmistakably Louisiana, but it translates well no matter what state he's in. Check him out at Culture Room this week.
Ricky Martin's One World Tour 2015. With Wisin. Saturday, October 24, 8 p.m. American Airlines Arena, 601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami; 786-777-1000; aaarena.com. Tickets cost $23 to $126 plus fees via ticketmaster.com.
1999's "Livin' La Vida Loca" may have been the song that rose Ricky Martin to international fame, but el boricua is still, well, livin' la vida loca. This week, el Puerto Riqueño will be joined by reggaetonero Wisin at the AAA for his One World Tour.
Big Freedia. Bounce Shakedown Tour 2015 with Hibou and Boyfriend. Sunday, October 25, 7:30 p.m. Revolution Live, 100 SW 3rd Ave., Fort Lauderdale; 954-449-1025; jointherevolution.net. Tickets cost $18.50 plus fees via ticketmaster.com.
"Bounce it biggity" and make room for Big Freedia as the Queen of Bounce (and reality TV star) brings the booty and bass to Revolution Live this week.
