Miami's Best Concert of the Week: The Cure at Bayfront Park Amphitheatre

Even though this is a dense week in Miami, bursting with quality shows — including Bryson Tiller and Fabulous at the Bank United Center and Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday teaming up at Bayfront Park — as the old movie tagline goes, "There can be only one.”

Much like Highlander (the film that quote is taken from), the Cure is an institution that has endured well past its '80s heyday. It's no easy task to name a band that has been a more influential force in pop rock music. Thousands upon thousands of artists have borrowed, copied, mimicked, or straight-up stolen from the coffers of Robert Smith's brilliant songwriting career.

Having explored different avenues in the subgenres of alternative, goth rock, new wave, and postpunk over the course of five decades, the discography of the Cure is a territory littered with landmines of awesomeness few bands can claim: “Boys Don’t Cry,” “Friday I’m in Love,” “In Between Days,” “Just Like Heaven,” “Killing an Arab,” “Lovesong,” and so on and so on. This show alone is worth all the other summer concerts combined. Keep your Bieber and Drake, as long as we can have the Cure.

The Cure with the Twilight Sad. Sunday and Monday, June 26 and 27, 6 p.m. Bayfront Park, 301 Biscayne Blvd., Miami; 305-358-7550; bayfrontparkmiami.com. Tickets cost $25 to $125 plus fees via livenation.com.
