From Felix Unger and Oscar Madison, to Turner and Hooch, to even Dennis Rodman and Kim Jong-un, odd couples have been entertaining us for decades. One such unlikely pairing rolls through Miami this week as Brand New and Modest Mouse bring their coheadlining tour to Bayfront Park Amphitheatre this Friday, July 8.

Even throughout all of Modest Mouse's lineup changes these last few years, people have known what to expect. There’s always been a consistency and steadiness with the Portland-based band.
Brand New, on the other hand, hasn't been a sure thing for years. Rumors of their disbanding have been as persistent as the melodic brooding of their music. Perhaps the one thing these two bands have in common is the gap between their last records and their most recent releases. It took Modest Mouse eight years before we saw 2015’s Strangers to Ourselves. As for Brand New, well, we’re on year nine, and the clock keeps ticking. As a matter of fact, perhaps they aren’t so much of an odd couple considering one very important fact: Their fans are happy and willing, almost masochistically so, to wait for whatever new material they produce. Thankfully, the wait to see two of the best in the business, regardless of breakups or delays, is finally over.
Modest Mouse and Brand New. Friday, July 8, 6 p.m. Bayfront Park, 301 Biscayne Blvd., Miami; 305-358-7550; bayfrontparkmiami.com. Tickets cost $35.95 to $59.95 plus fees via livenation.com.
