Lorde is the Best Choice for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 Soundtrack

Fans of the Hunger Games, rejoice! Katniss and her ilk finally have a voice to match their revolutionary rage.
It was recently announced that mysterious mistress of the Billboard charts Lorde will preside and curate over The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack, as well as provide the lead single for the nearly-final film.
Her brooding, intelligent vocals are perfect for what's easily the darkest book in the series (and that's pretty damn dark). If her twisted cover of '80s new wave fave "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" on the Catching Fire soundtrack is any indication of what we can expect, than this is going to be fucking amazing.
Historically, the soundtracks have been rather well put together. Even lead singles from the likes of tween-pop heartbreak queen Taylor Swift and dad-rock U2 wannabes Coldplay aren't what we'd call "bad songs." But nothing quite fits the bill like Lorde's signature brand of nu-Goth feminism.

Check it out. Lorde is 17. Katniss is just about the same age. Both are wise and soulful beyond their years. Both are powerful voices in bleak places (the pop charts are pretty fuckin' bleak). They both seem to hate everyone and both are a little uncomfortable with their power, but muscle through it anyway.
"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance," said Lorde in a press release. "The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people."
See? She's just like Katniss. No doubt she'll help handcraft a stunning soundtrack full of appropriate highs and lows, and hopefully enough distress to capture some of that '90s Nine Inch Nails kind of desperation. Somewhere between her busy schedule of playing Lollapalooza, touring North America, and being everyone's favorite celebrity hater, Lorde will hand-pick the artists that make the cut.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack is slated for release on Republic Records in fall of this year. We can't freakin' wait.
