We may have made mention before, but in case you haven't heard, just like papa, Locos Por Juana' s got a brand new bag. It's an EP called Evolucion, and that's not just a clever name. Living up to the EP's title, and to the lyrics on the title track, this six-song set features some bold new moves for the guys as they experiment with new sounds and rhythms. Still, the disc never loses the essence of what's made them long-time local favorites -- a strong foundation fused of cumbia, champeta, and roots reggae.
Tracks like "Plata o Plomo," "Afro Sound," and "La Chismosa" display a band more mature, developed, and sure-footed than ever. And if you've caught them live recently, you know for a fact they're firing on all cylinders onstage.
