Liset Alea and the SeXy TRiO at Viceroy's Club 50 Tonight
Have you ever wondered what Billy Idol's "White Wedding" would sound like with a bossa nova makeover? No? Me neither. But that doesn't mean it's not a good idea. And that's exactly the sort of thing that Liset Alea and the SeXy TRiO plan to do tonight at the Viceroy's Club 50. They promise to deliver Brazilian-tinged classics from artists both old school and new, like MGMT and Depeche Mode. Perhaps, once we've heard "Personal Jesus" in Portuguese, my wife and friend can at last put to rest their great ongoing drunken debate as to whether the lyric is "reach out and touch face," or "reach out and touch me-eeey" (I insist it's really faith, but neither of them believe me).
Liset Alea will also be performing some of her originals. The talented trilingual singer, songwriter and guitarist has an eclectic interpretation of pop and folk, and well she should. The perpetual nomad has not only lived in her native Cuba, but also Costa Rica, Miami, New York, Amsterdam, London and Paris, drawing from different cultural wells and putting back a little of her own flavor, writing for artists across Europe in English, Spanish and French and performing with diverse groups like Etro Anime and her own electronica venture, Honeythieves. Also, she's not exactly hard on the eyes.
As though you needed one more reason to head to the stunning Viceroy to partake in that most ancient of rituals known as imbibing over good music, there's no cover.
Liset Alea and the SeXy TRiO perform at the Viceroy's Club 50 (485 Brickell Ave) from 8 - 11 p.m.
