Every time a pop star shaves her head, a famous photographer's mother dies.

Alright, not really. But in the case of Lady Gaga and Terry Richardson, it's true. Kinda.

The back of Gaga's neck is shivering in honor of close friend and collaborator Terry's late mother, who passed away in an intensive care unit on Tuesday.

The fresh, new bit of scalp mirrors Richardson's own back-of-the-head bald spot, and it's meant to show solidarity with the singer's famous photog friend.

Mother Monster, who you can catch at the American Airlines Arena on March 16, took to Twitter to share her condolences and preview her new 'do.

Definitely a little strange, definitely a little attention-seeking. But a condolence is a condolence is a press opportunity.

In any case, Richardson and Gaga have been working together for years, culminating last year in a book of about 450 stripped-down, personal photos of the songstress.

To celebrate his mother, though, Richardson didn't get a dumb haircut. He honored her with a series of touching photographs (depicting her last days, connected to breathing tubes) posted to his website TerrysDiary.com.

And saying goodbye, Terry captioned an archive photo of his mother in full party mode smoking a cigarette: "R.I.P. Annie Lomax, My Mom 1938-2012."
