If you're not familiar with local avant jazz guru Kenny Millions, then you've got some catching up to do. The man is a saxophone virtuoso and if you listen to his music, without knowing anything about his storied past as a musician in other cities, you get the sense that this is a man who is taking free jazz to Sun Ra levels, hanging a left, and then really exploring outer space. It's not freakish free jazz that's hard on the ears, it's all controlled and melodic and easy to follow once you let yourself go.

I can't think of anyone else that you can compare to Sun Ra locally and if that piques your interest, you've got a chance to see him live tonight at the extra hip, Radio-Active Records in Fort Lauderdale. It's the only place in Broward with as much charisma and culture as Sweat Records in Miami and that alone makes stopping by this evening worth it. Factor in a free Kenny Millions show and this one should be a no-brainer if you're in the area.
