No, this isn't the Latina La Roux, though admittedly her hair is funky and awesome. Karina Iglesias is a local girl. She's sultry, smooth and soulful. And though she may not be what first comes to mind when you think of Miami's live music scene, perhaps she too should have a place there.

The native has certainly put in time paying her dues, and the SoFla public's gotten to reap the benefits. With her powerful voice and unique style -- a smart blend of R&B, soul, bolero, gospel, jazz and even hip-hop -- Iglesias is at once polished but genuine.

Born to Honduran parents right here in the 305, Karina's something of a music veteran in our local scene. It shows on her record The Way. Songs like "Gone" (video after the jump), "Make a Little Room," "Forget You" and "Change" display the singer-songwriter's tremendous vocal and lyrical talents. If you'd like to check her out live, the Van Dyke is giving you an opportunity, tomorrow night. No cover and great soul. Can't really ask for much more.

Karina Iglesias. 9 p.m. Friday, July 30. Upstairs at the Van Dyke Cafe, 846 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach. 305-534-3600; thevandykecafe.com
