Into the Night

Even though, it debuted some weeks ago, Chili Pepper's (619 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, 531-9661) newish Thursday night Bite the Pepper is still rocking. Former radio personality Erin, better known as "the DJ with Bite," jumpstarts your weekend by spinning old-school progressive and alternative tunes. The Pepper people have also added a nifty little chill-out area called the Opium Room, with cushy couches, psychedelic videos, and all the ambient mood music you can stand. Ambassador of good will in clubland Ray Rodriguez runs the room on Friday and Saturday night, adding his own sexy touches like candles and smoky incense. The Pepper wants to be your one-stop spot for fun, so they've added another too-cool night called Wise Guy Wednesday, hosted by man-about-town Bobby Radical, with DJ Chili doing chunky funk and slammin' soul rhythms all night. Back on the mainland, Latin rock gets a new home at Alcazaba (50 Alhambra Plaza, Hyatt Regency, Coral Gables, 441-1234). Friday night rocks more than ever with a new rock en espanol thing called Alcazaba Madness. Dancing and drinking rule, with all sorts of drink specials and open bar sessions throughout the evening, as well as a duo of free drinks for the lucky ladies and free paella for everyone. Local Latin rockers D'Facto provide musical inspiration for the dancing crowd. It's back to the beach on Saturday night for Society Hill's (627 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, 534-9993) new rough and tumble affair Exotica. The party people at the Hill go deep and dirty with tribal and house sounds, mixed in with fun retro tunes for that nostalgic crowd. Look for more nuevo nights as promoters and club owners roll up their party sleeves and hit hard for the upcoming season.

Thursday
