Into the Night
Is the family driving you crazy? Have you had just about as much as you can take of Aunt Martha's story about how she met Uncle Don? Lucky for you, clubland offers some interesting options that not only stir the soul, but warm the heart as well. Get into the gift-giving mood -- now that you've consumed enough food to feed a small nation for a year -- and stop by Lucky Cheng's this Friday. The South Beach restaurant where the gender-bender waiters are more entertaining than any of the delectable dishes they serve hosts the finals of Drag Race '96, a two-month-long contest to find the most fantabulous drag queen around. The restaurant is offering a special prix fixe menu for $25; proceeds benefit the Shelbourne House, an organization that gives affordable housing to people with AIDS. And if that doesn't satisfy your urge to do good, there's plenty of good will to go around when the White Party rolls in this week. Call the hotline at 888-628-5268 or check our "Calendar" for information. Then on Saturday work off that turkey-day stuffing at the ultra cool lakeside Marsbar Holiday Jam concert. The festive fun includes local bands Skintite, Orgasmic Bliss, and Bonding of the Dogs. Planet Radio (WSHE-FM 103.5) and host Julie Guy broadcast an interplanetary retro show from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. with DJ Chuck E. tuning in some spicy sounds and danceable tunes all night long. Doors open at 8:00 p.m., with the extra incentive for an early arrival of free cocktails until 10:00. There'll also be various specials at the mad munchies station. But rest assured, there will be no cranberry sauce here.
