It was just announced that Duran Duran will be stopping by Bayfront Park Amphitheater on Friday, April 1, with special guest Nile Rodgers, the legendary guitarist, founder of Chic, and Daft Punk collaborator.
This concert was originally scheduled to take place at the Miami Open tennis tournament, but was met with resistance from Miami-Dade County government, who felt that the concert — which was being held as an event separate from the tournament itself — violated the event rules of Crandon Park. There is only allowed to be one commercial activity held at the park each year — the Miami Open. Tickets for the Duran Duran concert were being sold separately from tickets to the Miami Open, which local government officials weren't too happy about.
“The County has been made aware that your firm, International Players Championship (IPC) intends to host a concert on April 1, 2016, featuring Duran Duran,” Parks chief Jack Kardys said, according to the Miami Herald. “Accordingly, as it is currently envisioned, IPC may not use the Crandon Park Tennis Center for the Duran Duran concert.”
