Dirtybird Players BBQ With Claude VonStroke, De La Soul, Justin Martin at Villa 221 March 21
These days, Dirtybird Records is almost as famous for its grilled meats as its ass-clapping beats. Blame a successful ten-year run of the San Francisco collective's infamous renegade Golden Gate BBQ parties, not to mention last year's inaugural Winter Music Conference and Miami Music Week installment.
The Dirtybird BBQ's 2012 debut in Miami also saw the crew breaking WMC's traditional dance-party mold by throwing hip-hop into the mix, as Phife Dawg of East Coast rap legends A Tribe Called Quest joined the Dirtybird players onstage for a guest MC performance. And though it might have seemed left-field for a so-called EDM party, it was actually pretty fitting for a label that takes many of its stylistic cues from deep hip-hop and booty bass.
In fact, last year's hip-hop crossover bash went over well enough with the heads that Dirtybird is doing it again with another legendary '90s rap act — De La Soul.
"I am so excited to continue where we left off last year by bringing another iconic hip-hop group to our Miami barbecue," Dirtybird's Claude VonStroke says. "I think everyone will agree that De La Soul at Dirtybird is not to be missed."
Of course, De La Soul is just the big, fat cherry on top of a whopping booty-shaped cake of a lineup, from VonStroke to Justin Martin, Eats Everything, Catz 'n Dogz, French Fries, J.Phlip, Worthy, Leroy Peppers, and Justin Jay. And let's not forget the chow, lovingly prepared by Dirtybird's own grillmaster, who'll be flown in all the way from San Fran.
So forget your diet. Because you're gonna burn off all those calories clapping ass to the relentless bass before the party is even over.
