Club Space closing parties

At 10 years old, Space has become the grande dame of mainland — and perhaps all of Miami — nightlife. But if her age is showing, her acolytes haven't noticed. Still, even clubs need their beauty rest, and so it goes that the club will shutter its doors for the fall, ostensibly for renovations. No, it doesn't make sense to us either that the venue would do so at the beginning of Miami's traditional "season," but all we can do is speculate. Nobody at the club will return New Times' repeated calls and emails for comment; sniff, sniff.

Still, Space is set to go out — even if only temporarily — with a bang. Labor Day weekend marks two days of Ibiza-style closing parties with similarly marquee names in talent. And both parties will go late, with the traditional holy afterhours observed both Saturday night/Sunday morning and the following night/morning. Hey, Monday is for sleeping off the party before you return to work.

On deck Saturday is Space favorite Boris, who'll pump out his trademark marathon set on the terrace. The techno loft belongs to Israeli knob-twiddler and Cocoon star Guy Gerber. Meanwhile, DJ Camilo will do hip-hop in the ballroom.

Club Space Closing Parties

With Boris, Guy Gerber, and DJ Camilo, beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday, September 4, and with Cedric Gervais, Steve Angello, L.A. Riots, and TKO, beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday, September 5, at Club Space, 34 NE 11th St., Miami; 305-350-1956; Tickets cost $20 to $60 in advance from Ages 21 and up.

Then, on Sunday, the last hurrah, Miami's best French transplant, Cedric Gervais, will share the terrace with Swedish House Mafia's Steve Angello. The main room, meanwhile, will take a different, hipsterish flavor, with L.A. Riots headlining and local duo TKO — Damaged Goods and Troy Kurtz — supporting. Act fast for tickets, though. Saturday night's all-access tickets, which guarantee entry anytime before 4 a.m., are already sold out. Now, you'll have to arrive "early" for Space — before either midnight or 2 a.m. — or chance it in the wee hours.
